1. Loss of appetite, weight loss.
If your dog is refusing food, it is time to worry. It can be hard to tell if a dog just doesn’t like the taste of the food or truly has an illness that’s causing the appetite loss, but not eating can quickly become a serious problem. For puppies younger than 6 months, not eating can be more serious.
Weight loss is the result of a negative caloric balance. For example, when a dog’s body consumes less food than it needs to maintain weight, or when the dog’s body can’t process nutrients as fast as it needs to, its weight will go down. If your dog loses more than 10% of its normal body weight, you should get it checked out with a vet because there are many serious causes out there.
