Just because you have been visiting this place since your earliest days doesn’t mean that you know everything about it. There are some fascinating things about the happiest place on earth that never made it to the promos.

  • Disney was built in a single year, having 18 attractions, 14 of which are still operational and in business.
  • Walt Disney had the idea of building a theme park when he took his daughters to the merry-go-round. 
  • Every single plant in Tomorrowland is edible.
  • The fastest spinning mad tea party cups are the orange and the purple cups.
  • Disneyland sells 2.8 million Churros every year.
  • One of Michelle Pfeiffer’s first jobs was to be Alice, from Alice in Wonderland, at Disneyland.
  • The Fastest Ride in Disneyland is Splash Mountain, faster than the roller coaster. While plummeting down, passengers are propelled at a speed of 40 MPH.
  • The Abominable Snowman inside Matterhorn has a name; it’s Harold.
  • The gold trimming on It’s a Small World Ride is made from real 22-karat gold.
  • Those who have ventured to the top of Matterhorn know that there is a basketball court at the top.

  • Disneyland’s Fire Station has a secret apartment hidden inside.
  • Over 200 cats live in Disneyland as a way of pest control. These feral cats even have their own feeding station at the park.
  • All water features at Disneyland are made brown or green on purpose to hide filtration systems and vehicle tracks.
  • There is a time capsule buried in Sleeping Beauty’s Castle which is to be opened in 2035.
  • ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ was never intended to be a ride. It was supposed to be a simple attraction which visitors could walk through. When it was first opened, they used real skeletons as props.
  • The spooky voice in the Haunted Mansion is of the same person who sang, “You are a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” in the motion picture, The Grinch. 
  • The most expensive souvenir at Disneyland is the miniature solid crystal replica of Cinderella’s Castle. It has over 28,000 Swarovski crystals at the Crystal Arts store.
  • Main Street had a Tobacco Shop which was closed in 1991. Now, the only place you will find alcohol in the entire park is at Club 33, which has a $25,000 fee for initiation.
  • No gum is sold at Disneyland. This is done to keep the grounds clean.
