10. Lack of Humor
Individuals with Asperger’s often lack a sense of humor. They may be told a joke and receive no response, or they may understand the punchline but show no acknowledgment of it. The patient may also have trouble recognizing humor in TV, movies, and comic strips. It seems like individuals with Asperger’s don’t find anything funny at all, and this can make them feel awkward during social interactions, especially when people are being light-hearted.
Lack of social understanding and acceptance is a severe concern for children with Asperger’s syndrome. When their classmates tell jokes, and they don’t get the punchline, it can lead to social isolation and anti-social behavior. Children with Asperger’s who feel they don’t fit in with their peers may start to exhibit these symptoms.
